Day Thirty -- His throne will be established forever
1 Chronicles 10:1 to 1 Chronicles 23:32
The reading for today contains a fair amount of material that we have heard before, some it told in a different way and some it literally word-for-word what can be found in 2nd Samuel and 1st and 2nd Kings. This should not seem odd since the stories of the first kings (Saul, David and Solomon) are of central importance and interest to the people who wrote them down and to those who came after them. Did not the writers of the New Testament do the same with many of the same miracles, healings and stories of Jesus included in more than one of the four Gospels?
What stands out for me in today's assignment is how chapter 17 portrays God's promise to David and his resulting There is a messianic tone to both that the kingdom of David's house will be established forever. Whenever God's people are in need of deliverance it will be a descendent of David that will have been ordained to save them. The importance of this promise to David cannot be underestimated for the affect that it later plays in Judaism and then Christianity.
