Day Four - Closing out a Chapter

Genesis 40:12 to Genesis 50:26

Today our journey brings to an end the narratives of Genesis.  We have read the pre-history stories of creation and the ancient days of humanity, to the beginnings of God's forming a covenant with Abraham and Sarah and their descendants Isaac and Rebekah, and Jacob, Leah and Rachel.  The people in the stories have literally covered a lot of territory, and so have we.  The stage will soon be set for the next chapter of their journey, with all of its uncertainties and challenges.  What we look to remain constant is the divine care and guidance for the people God has called as his own.

O God our heavenly Father, you have blessed us and given us dominion over all the earth:  Increase our reverence before the mystery of life; and give us new insight into your purposes for the human race, and new wisdom and determination in making provision for its future in accordance with your will; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen   [Book of Common Prayer, p. 828]
